InSight Telepsychiatry, LLC provides emergent psychiatric care via telemedicine
to a variety of facilities, including hospital systems, crisis centers, residential
programs, correctional facilities, outpatient offices, and military bases.
Hospital Systems: Telepsychiatric consultations are provided to both inpatient medical/surgical
unit patients located in general hospitals as well as in emergency departments of
acute care hospitals without psychiatric crisis services. There are many benefits
associated with implementing telepsychiatry in a hospital setting. Telepsychiatry
not only provides an answer to the critical shortage of qualified psychiatrists
in underserved areas, but also expedites the throughput of behavioral health patients.
The service ensures quality, timely, and cost effective psychiatric evaluations
that result in the appropriate disposition of the patient. The overall goal of telepsychiatry
in a hospital environment is to reduce the time it takes for a behavioral health
patient to receive psychiatric consultations by providing hospitals with real time
access to psychiatrists on a 24-hour basis.
Crisis Centers: Open 24 hours a day, crisis centers offer emergency psychiatric
services and aim to assess for the most appropriate level of care. Services include:
outreach, 24-hour screening and psychiatry coverage, referrals, seven day follow-up
evaluations, medication monitoring and psycho-education to families. Insight Telepsychiatry,
LLC provides the emergent psychiatry coverage. These centers range from very remote
counties, to urban settings, and suburban counties.
Law Enforcement/Corrections: Telepsychiatric services are provided for municipal,
county, and state correctional facilities and youth detention centers to provide
crisis evaluations at times when a prescribing psychiatric specialist is not on
site. Without the presence of a telepsychiatry program, it is often necessary to
transfer an inmate or arrested individual to a local hospital to receive evaluation
and treatment. This transfer is not only costly and time consuming, but potentially
dangerous.
Outpatient Offices: Telepsychiatric consultations are provided in various out patient
offices such as primary care physician offices, pediatrician offices, and mental
health clinics. These services are typically scheduled on a regular basis and include
psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Military Bases: Telepsychiatric consultations are provided to U.S. government military
bases to serve active duty soldiers and their families by providing immediate access
to behavioral healthcare services to military families before, during and post deployment.
The use of telepsychiatry on base expands the availability of behavioral health
assets to outlying military treatment facilities that have limited behavioral health
resources. Through the utilization of cutting edge televideo equipment, the families
of active duty soldiers are provided the same high quality care as would be available
at any robust behavioral health outpatient clinic.
Adolescent Residential Centers: Telepsychiatric services are used to provide face-to-face
emergency evaluations that prevent trips out of the facilities to maintain continuity
of care by avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions.
For the correctional, youth detention, and residential settings, the use of telepsychiatry
not only saves trips outside of the facilities that are costly and prone to risk
management issues, but also helps preserve continuity of care within an existing
treatment plan.
